Work

Ray Foster is a Superintendent at Modern Building Company. His career in construction began cleaning and scrapping out jobs as a child for a family drywall business, working nights and weekends in the drywall business during high school years. After one year of junior college, Ray worked 15 years with Foster Drywall Inc. in Nevada County. He built a few spec homes and completed multiple remodels during the 1980s, and later obtained a Class B General Contractor license in 1989 and began focus on new home construction with occasional remodels of kitchen and baths. Worked with the same crews and subs from 1990 thru 2005, many have remained good friends.

Moved out of contracting in 2005 and took up framing on DSA projects, this led to superintendent opportunities. Supervised new and remodel construction of elementary, high school and college buildings from 2008-2014. Then, as a Project Manager, I managed dozens of projects over the next five years while working with 12-15 superintendents, including bidding work, developing contracting scope and writing contracts.

Family, Hobbies, & Interests

Worked with family drywall business for almost two decades. My dad was from Oklahoma, he taught my brother and me a work ethic we’ve shared with our families. Our parents knew how to work hard but family came first, they were in their glory during the years we spent working together. The family business started in 1959 is still contracting drywall work in Nevada County.
Susie and I have been married for 41 years. We both attended Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley. Susie’s dad was my PE teacher and freshman basketball coach. Our surviving parents still reside in Nevada County and we visit with them often. When Susie and I first married I was active in fast pitch softball and traveled to tournaments most weekends. After our kids were born, softball tourneys became less frequent. We’ve had vegetable gardens over the years and the kids loved eating fresh veggies from the garden.
Both of our children graduated from Mt. Shasta High School, attended College of the Siskiyous and graduated with degrees. Ryan graduated from Southern Oregon with a degree in journalism while Erin graduated from Simpson College with teaching credentials. Erin married her high school boyfriend. She and Jeremy have four children. Aubrey, Trevor, Myles and Evan keep us busy! Susie assists Erin at school a few days and watches the youngest boys two days during the week. The grandkids love spending time at our small ranch in Red Bluff. We have sheep and chickens as well as horses next door that the kids love feeding and petting.
