Jim Tyler is a Superintendent at Modern Building Company. He grew up in California’s Central Valley, spending summers and weekends on construction sites working alongside his grandpa, uncles, and dad. Those early days sparked a lifelong career in construction.

Along the way, Jim met the love of his life, Sarah. They got married, raised two kids, and spent more than twenty years doing all the kid stuff—band trips, coaching baseball and softball, and being involved every step of the way.

While raising a family, Jim also started and built his own construction company. Over the years he grew the business and his expertise in construction, developing his skillsets to effectively manage a wide range of construction projects.

Then, life threw a new adventure their way. When their son and his wife announced they were expecting a baby, Sarah looked at Jim and said, “We’re moving.” Not long after, they sold everything and relocated to Durham to be closer to their growing family.

Now, Jim brings decades of experience to Modern Building Company. As he often reflects, it feels like just yesterday he was saying “I do”—and now, in the blink of an eye, he’s interviewing for what he plans to be the last job of his career.

Life, as Jim likes to say, is a wild ride.
